February 20, 2025
AI-based speed and personalization in content production
AI tools such as ChatGPT and Bard are transforming the way news is produced, enabling media outlets to produce original news reports at unprecedented speeds. This capability enables faster dissemination of information and meets the growing demand for real-time updates. Beyond speed, AI’s ability to analyze user behavior and deliver personalized content increases audience engagement and creates a more relevant media experience for consumers.
The Vast Potential of AI and a Call for Strategic Investment
Professor Akbar Manoussi highlighted the remarkable capacity of AI to process vast and diverse datasets at speeds far exceeding human capabilities. He noted: “Advanced AI models such as GPT-4 and GPT-4o are now publicly available and can answer complex questions in just 200 millionths of a second. In addition, multimedia applications offer promising avenues for innovation in media.”
Professor Manoussi stressed the importance of strategic investment in AI research and development, especially for countries like Iran. He stressed the need to move beyond imitation and foster domestic creativity in AI technologies. He added: “With the abundance of expertise in our universities, it is essential for our youth to have access to advanced AI tools. Investments in this area promise significant returns, both economically and socially.”
Changing Reading Habits and the Role of AI in Modern Media
Dr. Fardin Shoraj addressed the evolving patterns of content consumption, especially among younger generations. “Today’s youth are engaging with digital platforms in innovative ways,” he said. “While traditional ‘book readers’ may be in decline, we are seeing an increase in ‘book viewers’ engaging with content through digital media.”
Dr. Shoraj also highlighted the growing adoption of AI by leading global news agencies such as the Associated Press, Reuters and Bloomberg. These organizations are using AI to produce news in a variety of areas including sports, weather, economics and financial markets. He argued that the media can use AI to produce high-quality and more efficient content.
Ethical Considerations and the Need for Oversight
Despite its benefits, the increasing reliance on AI in the media is not without its challenges. AI algorithms, while powerful, often lack the depth to fully understand social and political nuances, potentially leading to superficial or inaccurate reporting. Furthermore, the misuse of AI to create unethical or misleading content poses significant risks to public trust and safety.
