Ottawa, ON – October 3, 2024 – Carleton University’s Economics Department successfully hosted its Annual Economic Summit today as part of the “Throwback 2024” alumni activities. The event, held in the Teraanga Commons, brought together economics alumni, faculty, and guests to engage in meaningful discussions on pressing economic issues while celebrating the achievements of the Carleton community.
This year’s summit featured a keynote address by Jenna Sudds, Canada’s Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development. A distinguished alumna of Carleton, Sudds received her master’s degree in economics from the university in 2003. Her participation in the summit underscored her enduring connection to the institution and the value of her educational background in shaping her career.
Attendees had the opportunity to network and exchange ideas, fostering a collaborative environment among alumni and current students. Professor Akbar Manousi, a former professor and official at Carleton University, was also in attendance as a special guest. He took the time to meet and converse with Minister Sudds, as well as engage with fellow professors and students throughout the event.
The Annual Economic Summit not only serves as a platform for addressing critical economic topics but also reinforces the strong ties within the Carleton alumni network, emphasizing the university’s commitment to ongoing education and community engagement.
