Early Life and Education
Born in Isfahan, Iran in July 1948, Prof. Akbar Manoussi's academic journey began in Tehran, where he completed his high school education at the prestigious Marvi and Dar ul-Funun schools. His academic pursuits led him to the University of Tehran, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Faculty of Law and Economics.
Driven by a thirst for knowledge, Manoussi embarked on an adventurous voyage to Canada in 1971, following the advice of Dr. Hossein Pirnia, a luminary in Iranian academia and the founder of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tehran. At the University of Waterloo, Manoussi immersed himself in the world of international economics, studying under the tutelage of renowned professors like Nobel laureate Robert Mundell and the distinguished economist Joan Robinson. His commitment culminated in a Master's degree in Economics in 1973.
Manoussi's academic odyssey continued at the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Engineering, where he earned a second Master's degree in 1976, this time in Management Sciences with a specialization in Operations Research and Econometrics. He further delved into this field, pursuing doctoral studies in Management Sciences with a focus on Operations Research and Applied Econometrics.
Academic Excellence and Teaching Prowess
While pursuing his graduate studies at the University of Waterloo, Manoussi embarked on a teaching career, imparting his knowledge to students. Upon relocating to Ottawa, he continued his teaching legacy for nearly three decades at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, mentoring students from around the globe. Throughout his tenure, he nurtured over 8,000 individuals, many of whom have emerged as successful managers and entrepreneurs in diverse industries across North America and beyond.
Manoussi's contributions to academia extended beyond the classroom. As the Director of the Master of Business Administration Program at Carleton University, he played an instrumental role in developing the university's international and educational programs.
Establishing the Canadian Higher Education Corporation
Leveraging his extensive knowledge and experience, Manoussi founded the Canadian Higher Education Corporation in 1995. With a vision to foster innovative educational programs and international academic collaborations in the fields of economics and management, the corporation has become a source of invaluable contributions to Canada's economy. Manoussi continues to serve as the corporation's Executive Director and a member of its Board of Directors.
